I was cleaning out my refrigerator several weeks ago when I found a few containers of medjool dates. I contemplated what to do with them, then took to Facebook to ask my friends if they had any recommendations. One friend suggested stuffing them with cream and coconut, another suggested sticky toffee, and another suggested a smoothie. I wasn’t in the mood for anything complicated, so I decided to go with the smoothie idea (Shout-out to Sofia! Holler girlfriend!).
I wasn’t sure how dates would translate in a smoothie, because I’ve never really experimented with dates before. Let me say this- they are amazing! The end result isn’t datey (is that a word? I guess it is now :)), and they lend a natural sweetness to the smoothie.
All in all, this is a very healthy recipe. It’s chock-full of protein and is totally filling. I was never too interested in smoothies, but thanks to Sofia’s recommendation, I am completely hooked 🙂

This looks like a great post workout snack! (After a couple of months I’m finally going to the gym…) I’m going to make this soon, Inshallah..I have a bunch of dates that no one is eating.
Today I made a Banana Peanut Butter Honey Milkshake which was really yummy. It was from An Edible Mosaic and she was saying to add 1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar to your smoothies…you won’t taste it and it makes the flavours pop! I added it and didn’t taste it at all…..

omg Asiya, I swear- you and I are more similar that I initially thought.
I just started going back to the gym after a break too! LOL crazyyy!
As for the apple cider vinegar, I would have never thought of that! What a great way to get additional health benefits without sacrificing taste!

Here some grocery stores have a gym on the top floor. It’s a ladies gym and they have child care there. I leave my youngest at the child care and then go workout. Without the childcare I would never be able to do this. I’ve started taking the classes and really prefer those…I would never do those exercises on my own. I go to a step class (which is exhausting….I have to stop several times in the middle just to catch my breath) and this week I tried a strength training class that I have kept putting off b/c I was so intimidated of the weights and all the fit women in their Lululemon outfits (me in the baggiest clothes I can find…..)…my biggest problem is changing the way I eat..doesn’t help that I made brownies after I came home from the gym 🙁 When my eldest son got home he asked why there were so few brownies…not good…..

That’s a really nice setup! I was a member of a ladies only gym that had many classes and a nice daycare. I used to go there with my son and attend classes too. I loved Zumba! But that gym just shut its doors one day without giving its members any prior notice, so I had to find another gym. The one I’m at right now has a ladies only section, but no daycare. And most of the Zumba classes are in the evening, so depending on whether I want to take the class or not I have to either go early in the morning before my husband leaves for work (5am) or go in the evening when he gets back (5 or 6 pm) so that my son can stay at home with him. Having a daycare at a gym is so useful!

Dates are something the kids dont eat easily.. or I should say even the adults 🙂
my husband just hates eating fruits… SO smoothie is one of the best ways to make fruits reach him 🙂
Thanks for a wonderful recipe

Smoothies are an amazing vehicle to sneak in fruits and veggies 🙂
