The weather is finally getting warmer, maybe even too warm for my liking, and it calls for more smoothies! You might remember a few weeks ago I decided to go on a hiatus from my self-imposed smoothie binge, but now I’m back!
My parents brought a large case of mangoes with them when they came to visit. I know, I know, you’re probably wondering, “Why mangoes?” You see, if there’s anything that brings people of the Indian Sub-Continent together, it’s mangoes. We LOVE mangoes!
We don’t get very ripe mangoes in the area that we live in. So my parents did what any responsible South Asian parent would do, and brought a case with them. We sliced a few, we made juice with a few, and I still have a few leftover. Since I’ve been making smoothies for breakfast and post-workout, I decided to make a mango smoothie, from this recipe with a few adaptations. It was DELICIOUS! The mangoes and orange juice work so well together, I can’t believe I didn’t think of it myself!

I love the combo of mangos and orange juice…so true about us desis and mangoes 🙂 In the summer we always have a case. My kids love them too 🙂 But they don’t last long. Unfortunately the last case I bought was really bad…they looked good on the outside but when I cut them they were black inside….I hate it when that happens..makes me itch. 🙁 There are areas in Toronto where there are guys selling them out of a van on the side of the road!

Out of a van? That sounds shady and hilarious at the same time 🙂

Not shady at all….It was very normal in the neighbourhood. There were a couple of these vans. And one van also sold vegetables! My friend told me that they would even deliver to their apartment. The neighbourhood I grew up was majority desis so maybe that might explain it. It was normal to walk down the hall in high school and hear people singing indian songs and talking in urdu 🙂

have to try this.. because I cannot imagine the taste of mango and orange together. 🙂
