Taco Tuesday (or Thursday, or any day) is a serious matter, so we’ve got to make sure that the seasoning is on point too!
Homemade taco seasoning is so incredibly easy to make, and all it takes is a handful of common household ingredients. Ease aside, the flavor that homemade seasoning brings compared to the store bought variety is second to none. There is no comparison.
Homemade Taco Seasoning
- ¼ cup chili powder
- 2 tablespoons cumin powder
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon red chili powder
- 1 tablespoon oregano
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1½ teaspoons black pepper
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes, optional
Combine all spices in a small bowl and whisk until thoroughly combined. Store in an airtight container.
Chili powder refers to the spice blend made up of paprika, cumin, etc.; It is not meant to be confused with cayenne or red chili powder.
Prepared taco seasoning keeps well in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 6 months.
Start with 1-tablespoon seasoning per 1-pound of meat (add salt as needed). Add more seasoning as necessary.
